Szymon

Geçen gün Spotify'da Szymon isminde bir sanatçı ile karşılaştım. Medusa adlı şarkısını dinledim sanırım ilk. Uzun zaman sonra böyle güzel bir ses ve müzik keşfetmiş olmanın mutluluğuyla şarkılarını sırayla dinlemeye başladım. Çok sevdiğim Little Tybee ve Kings of Convenience'ı hatırlattı bana. Biraz kendisini araştırayım, belki Youtube'da akustik performanslarını bulurum dedim ve Medusa'nın klibini izledim. Videonun altında "Hikayesini okuduğumda çok üzüldüm" gibi yorumlar gördüm hep. Sonrasında ise Szymon Borzestowski'nin 3 sene önce hayatını kaybettiğini öğrendim.

Szymon, 18 yaşında iken albümünü kaydetmeye başlıyor ve babası bir tane demoyu EMI şirketine yolluyor. EMI ise ardından Szymon'un peşine düşüyor ve albüm üzerinde çalışmaya başlıyorlar beraber. 2010 yılında Szymon'un akıl sağlığı ile ilgili yaşadığı bir problem nedeniyle prodüksiyon askıya alınıyor ve 23 yaşında iken de Szymon yaşamına son veriyor. EMI'dan Mark Holland, yıllarca Szymon'un ailesi ile beraber albümdeki 12 şarkıyı olabildiğince sanatçının vizyonunu yansıtacak şekilde düzenlemeye çalışıyor ve 21 Ağustos 2015 tarihinde albüm çıkıyor. Tigersapp, yayınlanması ile beraber Rolling Stone dergisi dahil, pek çok yerden övgüler alıyor.

Spotify'da keşfettiğimden beri albümü sürekli dinler oldum. Her dinleyişimde hikayesini unutturuyor tüm şarkıları. Aksine, melodileri ve sesi beni mutlu edip rahatlatıyor. Bir yenisi asla gelmeyecek ama Tigersapp asla eskimeyecek bir albüm.

The other day I came across with an artist called Szymon on Spotify. I guess it was Medusa that I listened first. I was so happy because of discovering a beautiful voice and music after a long time and I started to listen his songs one by one. They reminded me Little Tybee and Kings of Convenience that I love so much. Then I wanted to discover more about this artist in hope of finding an acoustic performance on Youtube and I watched the official video of Medusa. There were some comments to this video like "I cried when I was reading his story" and soon after I found out that Szymon Borzestowski passed away 3 years ago.

Szymon began recording his album at the age of 18. His father sent one of his demos to EMI and after that EMI tracked him down. Then they started working on the album. In 2010, the production was put on hold because of Szymon's mental health at the time and he killed himself two years later. With the help of Borzestowski family, Mark Holland from EMI tried to mix the 12 songs as much as they could reflect Szymon's vision. The album was released on 21 August and got amazing reviews including five stars from Rolling Stone magazine.

Ever since I discovered him on Spotify, I've been playing his album nonstop. Everytime I listened to it, all the songs make me forget his story. On the contrary, his voice and the melodies are very soothing that you feel happy immediately. There is never going to be a new album of him, but Tigersapp is an album which will never get old.
